It has been a busy few weeks for Year 4. The children have been working hard in all of our subjects.

In English, we watched Lighthouse and wrote our own story based on this. We included lots of great descriptive language and included some speech. This week, we have been writing persuasive arguments. We thought about the positives and negatives of single-use plastic and decided whether or not it should be banned.

In maths we have been continuing to work hard to learn all of our times-table facts and have used these in our lessons to find factor pairs. We have also been making use our place value knowledge when we have learnt to multiply and divide by 10 and 100. Over the next few weeks, we will be using our times-table knowledge to use written methods of multiplication.

In geography, we have started a brand-new topic: Rainforests. We have practised our map reading skills to locate rainforests around the world and have identified the features of a rainforest. We have learnt about the different layers of the rainforest and the animals and plants you find in each layer. This week, we have found out about the Congo Rainforest, creating a fact file based on the research we carried out.

In computing, we are learning about programming. This week, we are practising using coding to write our initials. Moving forward, we will be using our knowledge to  create repeating patterns.

In science, we have identified the states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. We classified different materials into the three groups. We then looked at how materials change states of matter for example, how water can change from a liquid to a solid and a gas. To investigate this, we timed how long it took to melt white chocolate and milk chocolate. This was lots of fun!

In PE, the children have been performing floor routines in gymnastics with Mr Perry, Miss Wicks and Mr Ball. They have choreographed and performed brilliant group routines with jumps, balances and other movements.

We have really enjoyed playing the glockenspiels in our music lessons so far this term. We have been learning our notes and have been practising and performing a variety of new songs.

We cannot wait to keep learning more!
