What an action-packed couple of weeks we have had in Year Two!

Our puppets are coming on beautifully, as we encountered modroc for the first time. Many of us were very unsure about the feel but soon got the hang of smoothing the modroc until all the holes had disappeared. Next step – design our faces, adding the detail we need to make them come alive and sewing our clothing together.

In Maths, we have looked at measurement, learning different ways in which we can measure and how to read a variety of scales.

Flat Stanley has been our focus in English, as we thought carefully about all the things we could get up to if we were flat. We wrote a letter from Stanley’s friend Thomas, inviting him to stay with us in California and a letter from Stanley to his Mum and Dad to let them know he was having a great time there.

In Science, last week we were set a task to find a better material for kitty litter. We learnt all about absorbency and investigated which material would absorb the most water. The children came up with fantastic reasons as to why we couldn’t use certain materials and why we should investigate with the three we chose. Can you remember which material we would recommend to the kitty litter company?

As well as looking at materials, Miss Stevens managed to get us some seed potatoes. Today we began to chit our potatoes by placing them in an egg box on the window sill. We made a prediction about what we think will happen and now we wait! We are going to learn all about the potato and cannot wait to see what happens to them!
