Welcome back to our final term together! I really can’t believe that we are in the last few weeks of Year One and soon the children will be travelling the long walk down the corridor to Year Two.

This week we have not looked at a book in English but have done lots of different lessons looking at particular rules we have to follow when writing. We made sure our common exception words were spelt perfectly, these are words that do not sound out and we just have to know how to spell them. We also looked at plurals, this is when we have more than one of something and add an s or es onto the end of it. Finally, we looked at the suffixes er and est and how to add these to root words.

In Maths, we have begun the tricky task of learning about money. Some of us already knew lots of the coins and the notes and have been able to move straight on to combining amounts, for some reason addition is so much trickier when there is a p or £! Some of the rest of us needed to spend a little longer on getting to know the coins and what they are worth.

We have been on another walk this week around our local area to see what kind of houses we have in Street. We are beginning to look at the History of houses, we decided we are very lucky to have electricity and duvets and inside toilets!

In Computing this term, we are using an app called Scratch Jr where the children have loved and are starting to program their own Sprite. We are very early on our programming journey but the children were all very enthusiastic and showed great potential.

This week we also had a visit from HSBC to talk to use about keeping our money safe in a bank or piggy bank at home.
