This week, even though we’ve only been back for 4 days, we’ve managed to pack a lot of things in.
In English, we have started a new book called ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’, which is a lovely story about a King who was scared of the dark. Many of us are scared of the dark when we’re children. However, unlike most people, when you’re a prince and you grow up to be a king, you have the power to ban the dark so it can’t frighten you again. We have been learning about facts vs opinions and we will be writing about the events in newspaper articles.
In Maths, we have been learning about area. We have learnt that area means the space taken up by a 2D shape. In Year 4, we start by understanding that area in rectilinear shapes can be separated into squares and they we count how many squares can fit into different shapes.
We have also started a new Art topic. This term, we are learning about Pop Art and some of the famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. We looked at colour wheels and how Pop Art uses complimentary colours to create a more vibrant effect.
This week, we also had a very special visitor to the school and the Y4 children did themselves and Brookside proud. They were able to show the very best of what Brookside has to offer and we are incredibly proud of them.
