Our ever so exciting science topic is well under way. Rocks really do rock! The children transformed into Geologists for the afternoon looking at all types of rocks through magnifying glasses observing what they could see deep within the rocks. We then went on to classify the rocks by their different properties. We came up with lots of different ways to sort them. One of the properties that Year 3 need to know about is whether a rock is permeable or not so we did an investigation with pipettes, water and rocks to see which types of rocks let water through or not. We found out the slate and marble are both impermeable. A good use for slate would be roof tiles to ensure our homes and schools don’t get wet!
