We have been listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children had a go at drawing their own ideas of what might be at the top of their Beanstalk. They also built their own Beanstalks with Duplo bricks.
It was also Science week so in our skills lessons the children experimented with ways to make marks using paint and string. They were given no adult directions, just allowed to freely investigate. The children also investigated what happens when oil-based paints are dropped into a bath of water. They used small tools to swirl the paints and make a pattern. They then placed a piece of paper on top. They were amazed by the patterns they created!
The children looked at a selection of objects and made a verbal prediction about whether they thought it would float or sink in a bowl of water and why. The children then took turns to drop an object into the water and test their predictions.
The children enjoyed some time in Forest School talking about how to grow a beanstalk. Each child then had the opportunity to plant and water a bean in a small pot. The children took these home and hope that ‘magic’ germination and growing happens and a beanstalk starts to emerge.
We are hoping that there won’t really be a castle and giant at the top!!
