Year 6 Spring A news

It has been another busy term in Year 6!

In English we have finished off the term by looking at the poetry book ‘The Lost Words’ – a book all about nature. We were inspired by the poem ‘Willow’ and used this to help write our own poem about a bird. We used assonance, consonance, repetition and personification in our poetry. This produced lots of creative and interesting poems that we read out loud to others. After writing and publishing our poem, we were able to add illustrations just like in the book.

Our topic in Geography this term has been Mountains. We learnt about the features of a mountain as well as the different types of mountains. We discovered the different ways in which a mountain could be formed: fold, dome , fault-block or volcanoes. We then carried out research about life on a mountain focussing on climate, jobs and uses of mountains. To finish our topic, we worked in groups to produce a poster and presentation about a specific mountain or mountain range. Everyone worked hard to research and produce their presentation which were then shared to the class.
