What a brilliant half term we have had in Year 2!

In English, we really enjoyed writing our non-chronological report all about ourselves. We learned how to write in paragraphs and even included subheadings! Thank you to everyone at home for taking the time to help complete the planning sheet for this piece of work. We also really enjoyed the book we looked at this half term called Kevin. We wrote some brilliant character descriptions, predictions and even invented our own imaginary character!

In Maths, we have been doing a lot of work on measurement. We have learned how to measure length and height using both a ruler and a metre stick, and we understand which one to measure with depending on the object. We have also been using grams and kilograms to measure mass and litres and millilitres to measure capacity . We are continuing to practice column addition and subtraction too and can understand when we need to exchange or ‘borrow’ a ten from the number next door. We practice our times tables every week and we know lots of multiplication facts!

In DT, we have made a brilliant progress with our puppets! We made the head using newspaper, masking tape and then a layer of mod-roc. We have painted them and are currently developing our sewing skills by sewing them an outfit! We have also learned all about Jim Henson – the puppeteer who created The Muppets.

In computing, we have been learning about and creating pictograms. We chose a question and set of answers to ask everyone in the class and went round tallying up the results. We then used the iPads to turn this information into a pictogram. Can you explain to your grown up what a pictogram is and why they are useful?

In Science, we have now planted the potatoes that we chitted last term and are looking forward to watching them grow!
